Doubleplusgood Bake Shop is a bake shop that holds a dear place in my heart because I remember Nikima and me discussing this idea about her baking for a living since we were roommates in 2008. It is so beautiful to see someone’s dream come to fruition. She is the living example that you should never give up on your dreams.
Doubleplusgood Bake Shop is located in Darlington, South Carolina, USA and offers many different baked treats. Some of her hometown favorites are red velvet cake, strawberry cheesecake, and any cupcake you can think of. So, if you can imagine the moistest cake you have ever had in your life, add some fluffiness, now add the beautiful flavors of red velvet cake, while you are imagining that dream of the most light and whipped traditional cream cheese icing you have never had. The cake basically melts in your mouth with doubleplusgoodness! And this is only one of her cakes. LoL…
For those of you who do not know about red velvet cake, she “is the queen of all layer cakes. The “I can’t quite put my finger on the flavor” cake. It’s the sweet marriage of buttermilk and vanilla with a little cocoa for good measure. She’s tall, dramatic, and completely covered in silky cream cheese frosting (Sally’s baking addiction, 2019).”
My all-time favorite is the apple cinnamon rolls she baked for me before I left to come to Poland. Lawd have MERCY! I am salivating from the thought of the ooey gooey deliciousness of that beautiful creation. And this may change every time she makes me a new item. He he!
Get to know Nikima…
1. What made you want to go into this industry?
I have always enjoyed baking and I even considered going to culinary school at one point. So, when I became a stay at home mom in need of extra cash baking was the easier way for me to work from home.
2. How long have you been working in your profession? Or working on your craft?
I have been baking for as long as I can remember, mostly just for fun, but every once in a while I would get paid to make something. However, it was about 2017 when I started learning new techniques and trying recipes that were completely outside of my comfort zone. Really, I was just trying to find my identity as a baker. It was another 2 years before people truly started noticing my work and my hobby truly became a business.
3. What inspires you to create new items? And try new recipes?
Baking has always been a creative outlet and trying new recipes is like getting to do a freestyle dance after having to do the technical routine. I try new recipes so I do not get burnt out and lose the passion for something I love.
4. What would you want people to know about your product, company, or brand?
I want people to know how humbled I am every time they consider doubleplusgood for their special occasions or even just for a sweet tooth. I strive to make every cake, cupcake, brownie, cookie, etc. better than the last because there is nothing more satisfying than a repeat customer.
